The core of our contracting work is major electrical installation on industrial manufacturing and processing sites. HV installations require a different standard of site management to LV work. Switching procedures, isolation, earthing, fault level coordination, and compliance with AS 2067 and applicable network provider requirements all need to be handled with precision. ARA carries this capability in-house. There is no subcontracting the high-voltage scope to a third party who has limited visibility of the broader project.

Process and Automation Projects

A large part of our contracting work involves process plant and automation upgrades on manufacturing and production sites. This includes the installation and commissioning of PLC and SCADA systems, motor control centres, variable speed drives, instrumentation, and process interlocks, along with the LV power distribution infrastructure that supports them.

These projects require engineering and installation to stay closely aligned throughout. Control system design, panel manufacture, field wiring, and commissioning are all developed as part of the same scope. Because ARA handles engineering, panel manufacturing, and site installation under one arrangement, process and automation projects are managed without the coordination gaps that arise when these scopes are split between separate parties.

Switchboard and MCC Projects

Switchboard and MCC replacements on industrial sites are rarely straightforward. In most cases the work has to be staged within a live facility, which requires carefully planned outages, managed transitions between old and new infrastructure, and thorough testing of protection, metering, and control functions before equipment is returned to service.

ARA designs, manufactures, and installs switchboards and MCCs to AS/NZS 61439. Manufacturing is part of the project delivery, not a separately procured supply item. That means the board is built to suit the installation — not the other way around.

Machine Safety Upgrades

Machine safety upgrades are a regular part of our project work. Industrial plant that has been modified or extended over time often has safety systems that no longer reflect how the machine is actually used. ARA redesigns safety circuits, installs interlocked guarding, commissions safety-rated PLCs, and validates emergency stop architectures against the Performance Level requirements of AS 4024 and ISO 13849.

This work is always engineering-led. Installing safety hardware without a documented risk assessment and a design verified against the required Performance Level does not reliably achieve the risk reduction it is supposed to provide.

Hazardous Area Electrical Contracting

ARA are industry leaders when delivering electrical projects and compliance upgrades within hazardous area environments in chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage facilities. Equipment selection, installation methods, and certification requirements are governed by the AS/NZS 60079 series for the applicable zone classification.
