HV SM6 Upgrade with Remote Switching HMI Facility & 2 off 22kv Transformer replacement

ARA Electrical Services from conception to completion, was engaged to engineer and install a new schneider 22kv SM6 and replace 2 off 22kV transformers.

The remote switching of the SM6 unit utilized a TM300, designed with a wireless modem so that the HV operator could operate the HV switch gear remotely from an external HMI.  ARA project managed the entire project including the management of the EWR and Powercor.

The project was staged over 2 separate shutdown days which included;

  • Shutdown and replacement of 2 off 22KV transformers
  • Installation of remote switching facilities and control methodology modifications.
  • Shutdown and replacement of the HV main switch board (Schneider SM6)
  • Design and installation of new pad and culvert for the new HV main switchboard.
  • Design and installation of new earthing grid
  • Excavation of existing cables and re-terminate onto new SM6 Unit.
  • HV protection Study and testing
  • Commissioning of the new switch gear
