Design and Construction of major MSB upgrade

ARA were awarded the D&C upgrade of a large MSB for a processing facility. The project had significant arc flash risks which was controlled with innovative engineering solutions.

The key elements of the project were:

  • New main switch board design and installed by ARA
  • Remote switching design and installation for ACB’s
  • Engineering of all circuit breaker settings to reduce arc flash risks to a controllable level.
  • Arc flash reducing push buttons to lower arc flash settings within the circuit breaker during operation.
  • Project and shutdown methodology to reduce impact to 24hr facility.
  • Disconnection and reconnection of all incoming and outgoing mains cables.
  • In-line joins for mains cables that were being relocated to a different section of the new board
